ArchiveIQ / Working notes

A steadier export workflow in Lightroom Classic.

Let Lightroom keep track of file names as you bring a shoot in or prepare it to leave. A simple, repeatable pattern can make the handoff easier to read without adding another rename step outside your catalog.

A practical sequence

Keep the naming close to the work.

  1. Choose the moment to name the files

Use Lightroom Classic’s native File Renaming panel during Import to establish names as a shoot enters your catalog, or during Export when you are preparing a delivery. Either way, keep the rename in Lightroom.

  2. Keep the pattern easy to scan

A useful sequence can carry the date, shoot type, a short subject cue, and a frame number. ArchiveIQ’s Wedding profile uses this example pattern:

    ArchiveIQ Wedding pattern

    YYYY-MM-DD_Wedding_[Subject]_[NN]

    Example filename

    2024-06-14_Wedding_Ceremony_18.jpg

This is an ArchiveIQ naming convention, not Lightroom’s literal token syntax.

  3. Check a few names before the full export

Preview the results and make sure the date, subject cue, and sequence match the handoff you want. A readable pattern is easier to use when it stays consistent across the set.
